Statement
My work explores the notion of time by gathering traces from my surroundings. Echoing these traces is how the work evolves.
Each echo creates a transformation, a state of movement and change, reflecting my interest in the idea of transience. Like Chinese Whispers, it is this magical process which provides the impetus and facination for my practice.
Fragments from trees, my studio and existing work provide my source landscape.
Touch is intrinsic to the making of the work and frottage an integral part, where I act as facilitator by allowing the chosen surface to create its own likeness.
The work is then developed through the contradictory elements of repetition and variation, chance and intention, deconstruction and reconstruction.
